Regulations 2017

Main Conditions

  • Entries will not be specially acknowledged. The entry fee has to be paid in the Festival office at least two hours before the start of the tournament.
  • The inscription is only valid after paying the entry fee.
  • GM, IM and players who have already paid their entry fee must confirm their participation at the Festival office at least one hour before the beginning of the first round. If not, the player will not be paired.
  • The tournaments MTO and ATO will qualify for Swiss and FIDE ratings (where applicable).
  • Players who provide false information on their entry form (especially concerning ratings) risk to be excluded from the tournament.
  • The FIDE Elo rating lists May, June and July 2017 as well as the Swiss Elo lists 2/2017 and 3/2017 are valid for the admission to the tournaments. For the category prizes, FIDE rating has priority.
  • Prizes are valid for more than 100 participants per tournament (MTO, ATO, RAP, BTO).
  • The special prizes (best women players, seniors, juniors, child and best Swiss) in the tournaments MTO, ATO, RAP, BTO and Chess960 are only for players scoring 50% or more. The restriction is not valid for special Elo prizes.
  • Late arrivals of max 30 minutes are allowed. If a player is more than 30 minutes late, his game will be considered lost by forfeit.
  • Players are responsible for submitting their scoresheets by themselves after their game; otherwise, the game will be evaluated as 0:0!
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited within public buildings in the canton of Bern.
  • Players are allowed access to the following zones during their games: tournament hall, WC on the first and second floors, entrance hall (bar and office). Smoking area is at the entrance of the Congress.
  • The use of mobile phones and computers in the tournament hall is strictly prohibited.
  • In case of a disagreement, arbiters’ decisions should be contested without delay orally by the main arbiter. The decision of the main arbiter is final.

Swiss Chess960 Championship

Mode of playing: Chess960

July 22nd 2017, 1.00 p.m.

7 round Swiss system.

Time control: 15' + 5" per move and per player.

Prizes: CHF 300, 200, 100. Total prize fund: CHF 600 + prizes in goods.

Playing schedule: 1.00 - 7.00 p.m.

Prize giving: 7.00 p.m.

Entries via www.fischerschach.ch or latest on July 22nd 2017 until 12.00 p.m. at the Festival office (reception).

Simultaneous

The simultaneous against a Grandmaster will take place in the center of Biel (Nidau/Dufour Street) on July 22nd 2017 at 1.00 p.m.

Entries will be accepted latest on July 15th 2017. Limited number of participants!

Swiss Rapid Chess Championship

July 23rd 2017, 9.30 a.m.

9 round Swiss system.

Time control: 15' + 5'' per move and per player.

Prizes: CHF 1'200, 800, 600, 500, 400, 300, 200, 150, 2x100. Prizes in goods for players with 6 points and more. Best women player, best senior (1957-), best junior (1997+): each CHF 200. Best child (2001+), best untitled player: each CHF 100. Best Swiss (with CH-passport): CHF 400, 300, 200, 2x100. Best players with Elo <2000 and <1800: CHF 300, 200, 100, 2x50. Total prize fund: CHF 7'650 + prizes in goods.

Playing schedule: 
1st - 3rd round: 9.30 a.m. - 12.15 p.m. , 
4th - 9th round: 1.30 - 6.45 p.m.

Prize giving: 7.15 p.m.

Entries will be accepted latest on July 23rd 2017 until 8.30 a.m. at the Festival office (reception).

Master Tournament

July 24th - August 2nd 2017; 2 p.m. (August 2nd: 11 a.m.). Rest day on July 29th.

9 round Swiss system.

Time control is 90 minutes for the first 40 moves + 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one. The playing schedule can be found on the official website.

Prizes: CHF 6'000, 4'500, 3'500, 3'000, 2'500, 2'000, 1'500, 1'200, 1'000, 800, 700, 600, 2x500, 3x300, 3x200. Best women players: CHF 500, 300. Best senior (1957-), best junior (1997+), best child (2001+): each CHF 500. Best players with Elo <2200 and <2100: CHF 500, 400, 300, 200, 100. Best Swiss players (with CH-passport): CHF 1'000, 600, 300. Total prize fund: CHF 37'000.

Admission: players with FIDE-rating (list May, June or July 2017) or national rating (e.g. Swiss ELO list 2/2017 or 3/2017) ELO 2000 and more.

Participants without international rating must show proof of playing strength. Applications must be received no later than May 31st 2017 (they should include all tournaments results from the past two years and be signed by the club president).

Entries will be accepted on July 24th 2017 until 12.00 p.m. latest at the Festival office (reception).

The final standings will be created according to point number, Buchholz and progressive score. The worst score in each case will be deleted. Prices will be shared upon the final ranking (and not the “Hort System”).

Admission: players with FIDE rating (list May, June or July 2017) or players with national rating ELO 2050 and below (e.g. Swiss ELO list 2/2017 or 3/2017), independent of their FIDE rating.

Participants without international or national rating must show proof of playing strength. Foreign players without national rating are not qualified to get prizes. In all special cases, the tournament organiser will have the final decision.

Entries will be accepted on July 24th 2017 until 12.00 p.m. latest at the Festival office (reception).

Swiss Blitz Chess Championship

July 29th 2017, 2.00 p.m.

13 round Swiss system.

Time control: 3' + 2'' per move and per player.

Prizes: CHF 1’000, 750, 600, 500, 400, 300, 250, 200, 150, 100, 2x50, prizes in goods for players with 8 points or more. Best women player, best senior (1957-), best junior (1997+): each CHF 100, best child (2001+): CHF 50. Best Swiss (with CH-passport): CHF 300, 200, 150, 100, 50. Best players with Elo <2000 and <1800: CHF 100, 60, 40. Total prize fund: CHF 5'900 + prizes in goods.

Playing schedule: 
1st - 5th round: 2.00 - 3.30 p.m., 
6th - 10th round: 3.45 - 5.15 p.m., 
11th - 13th round: 5.30 - 6.15 p.m.

Prize giving: 6.45 p.m.

Entries will be accepted latest on July 29th 2017 until 12.30 p.m. at the Festival officfe (reception).

Youth Tournament

Free entry in the Youth tournament!

The Foundation Vinetum offers free entry fee, free lunch and prizes for all participants at the Youth tournament.

Saterday, July 29th 2017, 10 a.m.

Three categories:
U18 (born 1999-2003)
U13 (born 2004-2006)
U10 (born 2007 or later)

7 round Swiss System, 15 minutes

Free entry and free lunch!

Prizes in goods for all participants.

Entries will be accepted on July 29th 2017 until 9.30 a.m. latest at the Festival office (reception).

Tournament for Doctors

Time control: 15' + 5" per move and per player.

Admission: for doctors only

1st - 2nd round: 11.00 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. , 
3rd - 5th round: 2.15 - 4.30 p.m.

Prize giving: 4.30 p.m.
